Wainscott Dumplings

4th Edition Now Available

The Wainscott Dumplings by Alice E Osborn Hand is a collection of stories of the people and events of Wainscott, a collection of remembrances of Alice Osborn-Hand's life growing up in Wainscott in the 1880-1900 time frame. Her cousin, Dayton Hedges, a Wainscott native, and later a Cuban industrialist, surprised Alice for her birthday in 1954 and had her remembrances printed into a book. The first edition was printed in Cuba. The book was republished in 1977, 1998 and now again in 2020. In this 4th edition, we added pictures of the author and her family from the period. It's a charming book, beloved by the people of Wainscott, and of a lifestyle almost forgotten today.

The book is a soft cover, 112 pages, and was printed by Montauk Printing, retail price $20. Proceeds from the book benefit the Wainscott Chapel (non-profit community center), owned and overseen by the Wainscott Sewing Society.

The book is available from a Wainscott Sewing Society member, at Bookhampton in East Hampton, NY, or by mail. Mail a check for $20, plus $5.00 shipping ($1 for each subsequent book), your name, and mailing address to:
